Sunday, October 14, Jeremiah 29 - 30, 1 Thessalonians 1 - 2
- Jeremiah wrote a letter in chapter 29 to those who had been exiled to Babylon. They were hoping to return soon, but Jeremiah told them they would be held for 70 years. Then in verse 11 he says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." What should you do if God's plans for you are not what you prefer?
- Jeremiah 30:9 says, "Instead, they will serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them." Why does God speak about Israel serving David centuries after he lived and died?
- What does Paul mean in 1 Thessalonians 1:5 when he says, "our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction"?
- In 1 Thessalonians 2:4 Paul says, "We are not trying to please people but God." How does it change your life to live only to please God?
Monday, October 15, Jeremiah 31 - 32, 1 Thessalonians 3 - 4
- In Jeremiah 31:31-34 God promises a new covenant. What are the most important features of the new covenant?
